Lions GM surprised Best hasn't been cleared yet

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew prides himself on not sharing too much information.

He laughs at reporters who try to exchange more than pleasantries with him throughout the year when it's not one of the rare days he makes himself available to the media.

However, Mayhew did take and answer questions on Tuesday morning and couldn't hide his feelings about waiting for Jahvid Best to be cleared for practice.

"I'm a little bit surprised, a little bit disappointed," Mayhew acknowledged. "Everything was trending toward him being ready to go the first day of training camp."

Best had a season-ending concussion on Oct. 16, 2011 - his second of the year and at least his third overall - and seemed to be making progress during the offseason.

Like the Lions, Best isn't pleased that he's being held out by doctors despite not having any obvious concussion symptoms.

"It's definitely frustrating," he said.

Detroit is counting on Best to help strike a balance with its stellar passing game led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson.

The Lions are also banking on defensive end Cliff Avril reporting to camp to sign a $10.6 million, one-year deal after he and the team couldn't agree on a long-term contract.

"Eventually, I know he will be here," Mayhew said. "And he'll be in great condition when he gets here."

Messages left with Avril, seeking the planned date of his arrival in Allen Park, haven't been returned.

"If anything is positive or encouraging to me, he's very optimistic about how he's going to perform this season," Mayhew said. "He has his reasons for not being here. We made a very solid offer to him that we felt was a really good offer. He was willing to bet on himself and bet that he's going outperform what was on the table, and I like that."

The Lions, ranked No. 11 in the inaugural AP Pro32 NFL power rankings, are coming off their first appearance since the 1999 season. Mayhew said he thinks this team is better than the last one, but he's not willing to say returning to the postseason is an expectation of his.

"It's important for us to not start focusing on the playoffs right now," he said. "My focus right now is to have a good practice today and I think a lot of our teams feels that way. I know Jim (Schwartz) preaches that. The only way you get back to the playoffs is by taking care of the steps along the way."

Center Dominic Raiola has endured a lot of losing since Detroit drafted him in 2001, including the NFL's only 0-16 season just four years ago. He said the Mayhew-led front office deserves a lot of credit for turning the franchise around.

"If you look at the talent that we're bringing in and keeping, it's night and day," Raiola said. "They're giving us everything it takes to win."

Detroit is missing only one starter from last season, cornerback Eric Wright, who signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent, and he left a void that Aaron Berry was projected to fill this year. However, Berry had his contract terminated last week after being arrested twice this summer. That leaves the Lions with lackluster options - Alphonso Smith, Jacob Lacey, Justin Miller along with rookies Dwight Bentley and Jonte Green - to start opposite cornerback Chris Houston.

"My belief in the spring was that we had a very heated competition at the right cornerback spot," Mayhew said. "There were a number of players involved and a lot of those guys are still here competing."

Mayhew said he would be willing to add a veteran running back or cornerback at some point, but believes it is too early to make such a move.

So, what is his biggest concern a little more than a month before opening the season at home against the St. Louis Rams?

"Not saying anything silly right now in talking to you guys," Mayhew said.

Going Postal

The model is pretty simple, albeit a little old-fashioned as a way of providing public services. Rather than having taxpayers directly finance mail delivery, Congress has chartered a freestanding entity, the USPS, charged with the legal obligation to provide low-cost daily mail service six days a week to all Americans at a flat rate?regardless of whether it?s cost-effective to do so. In exchange, that entity has a monopoly on ordinary mail delivery. The idea is that the lucrative monopoly over delivery to metropolitan areas will generate enough revenue to cover money-losing rural services without the need for direct taxpayer subsidies. The problem is that the monopoly isn?t nearly as lucrative as it used to be?and barring some wild technological shift, it?s going to keep getting less and less lucrative.

Beverly Hills Immigration Law: DOMA Immigrant Challengers Get ...

HUFFINGTON POST

By Elise Foley

July 30, 2012

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/30/doma-immigrant-gay-couples_n_1720084.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular

As long as the Defense of Marriage Act is in effect, same-sex binational couples won't be able to petition for the foreign-born partner to receive legal status. In the meantime, though, a group pushing the Obama administration to delay decisions on green card applications won a small victory last week when a judge ordered a stay on its lawsuit against the government.

Five same-sex couples, some with visas and some without, were named in the challenge against DOMA filed April 2 by advocacy group Immigration Equality and the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. It contends that "[s]olely because of DOMA and its unconstitutional discrimination against same-sex couples, these Plaintiffs are being denied the immigration rights afforded to other similarly situated binational couples."

For those couples, that means one member may be required to leave the country periodically, sometimes for six months at a time, before returning on a temporary visa. Others can't leave at all because they would have no avenue by which to return. Still others could be separated should the partner who is a foreign citizen lose a job that gives work authorization.

Binational heterosexual couples have different rights. The partner who is a U.S. citizen can apply for legal status for their foreign-born spouse even if they are undocumented, although that makes it more difficult.

The judge?s decision, which was issued Wednesday and reported to the plaintiffs Friday, does not mean the couples will be granted visas or green cards, but it does mean they will be unlikely to face separation as the stay is pending and other DOMA suits are considered. The two-sentence order declared, "[t]he case is stayed pending the Second Circuit's resolution of Windsor v. United States."

The case is part of a broader push for equal immigration rights for same-sex couples. Immigration Equality renewed its call for reform in a letter sent Friday to President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder. In the letter, which was provided to The Huffington Post, the group points out that a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act will end up at the Supreme Court.

"We are writing now because the circumstances surrounding DOMA have changed considerably since we first raised this issue a year ago," Executive Director Rachel Tiven and Legal Director Victoria Neilson wrote. "We believe that you should therefore reconsider your prior decision not to hold green cards in abeyance."

"We ... are asking that the status quo be broadly maintained -- that the green cards for all lesbian and gay immigrant families be neither approved nor denied until there is a final resolution of the constitutionality of DOMA," they wrote.

One couple named in the suit has received at least a little relief from immigration woes, but wants a permanent solution. Tim Smulian, a citizen of South Africa, and his husband Edwin Blesch, a U.S. citizen, found out in February that Smulian could stay in the U.S. temporarily without leaving based on limits on his visa. Smulian previously lived in the United States six months on, six months off on a tourist visa. Despite that reprieve, they want full rights that will maintain that reality.

"We do see it as the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel," Blesch said when Smulian received deportation relief in February. "We were getting pretty hopeless for a while there. This is a wonderful development for us, and it takes away the day-to-day worry every morning when we get up, 'What's going to happen now?'"

CORRECTION: 3:00 p.m. -- This article was corrected to reflect that some of the couples have visas, such as employment or tourist visas, but not green cards. It also reflects that the stay of the lawsuit means they are unlikely to be separated while the case is pending.

Ayotte: Dems using military as ?bargaining chip? in fight over cuts

A freshman Republican senator accused the White House and congressional Democrats of using the military as a bargaining chip in a debate over spending cuts.?

"It makes me sick that some in Washington, particularly some of the Senate Democrats want to play, and even our president unfortunately, want to use our military as a bargaining chip," said Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.?

Ayotte said House and Senate GOP leaders have asked President Obama to come to the table to figure out how to resolve the issue of sequestration, a plan passed by Congress a year ago that would cut $1 trillion in spending over 10 years, including $500 billion from defense.?

Lawmakers have expressed concern over the volatile mix of spending and tax hikes that could put the U.S. economy over the so-called ?fiscal cliff.??

Republicans and Democrats are also at odds on the expiring Bush-era tax rates, with Democrats and the White House looking to extend the lower rates for those couples making below $250,000 a year. Republicans however want the rates extended across the board, a move the White House has threatened to veto to force the wealthier to pay higher rates to offset cuts.

Ayotte, who has been named as a possible vice presidential nominee for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said the choice is not between whether to extend tax breaks for those earning at least $250,000 a year or slashing defense spending.?

"That's not the choice and where is our commander-and-chief on this," she said.?

"Why isn't he right now at the table with members of both sides of the aisle resolving this. He could lead this effort and he has been AWOL on this."

Waiting until after the election would be "undermining our national security and cost nearly 1 million jobs," she said.?

Still, there is unlikely to be enough political will on Capitol Hill to craft a plan with only 100 days before the November elections.?

The White House and congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle have signaled their support for seeking out different cuts than were agreed to last year during the debt-limit debate that pushed the United States toward default.?

Lawmakers have one week left before leaving Washington until September and they are unlikely to take up any prickly issues prior to the election.?

The Senate on Thursday passed the president's tax plan that would continue cuts for those workers making $250,000 a year or less. Under that proposal, tax breaks would expire for those making above that amount.?

The House will vote this week on extending for a year, all Bush-era tax breaks.?

Ayotte has said that while it is "an honor" to be mentioned on a long list of vice presidential choices for Romney she is focused on serving the people of New Hampshire. She was elected in 2010.

Highlights From Black Hat Conference | Varanoid.comVaranoid.com

Black Hat is over. The year?s biggest and probably most influential IT security conference again had a lot of interesting talks to offer, and of course also the most important part: Meeting with other people from the industry?to share news, ideas (and beer). As for the talks, there wasn?t much earth-shattering this year. Aside from sessions on Apple?s view on security and improvements in Windows 8, the mobile talks were what got most of my attention.

Because mobile platforms have become so important, they have gotten the attention of cybercriminals. (Check the McAfee Threats Report for more information.) There is also a lot of interesting stuff going on. And a lot of mistakes being repeated. Again. An eye opener should be Collin Mulliner?s talk about scanning mobile IP ranges and seeing what kind of devices are there. The result is really scary. Apparently people do not realize that often when you?re online with a mobile device using GSM, GPRS,?G3, etc. that the device is not only able to access the Internet. It is also accessible from the Internet. So putting up sensitive hardware without any access authorization is a bad idea. Bad as in ?it could cause a power failure in the company? or ?it may cause the plant to burn down.? To have your surveillance cameras exposed is not exactly ideal either.

Even more disturbing was Charlie Miller?s talk on near-field communications (NFC) on some mobile devices. He highlighted one major point of failure in the IT industry that is repeated over and over again. Say you have something that security wise is pretty solid. Meanwhile marketing and product management add an additional feature. That?s happened in the case of NFC on mobile devices, which would be great for authentication or payments. They just got ?enhanced? with device-to-device communications. What?s wrong about that?

Instead of exposing just NFC-related?apps, if you can send someone to a web page without his acknowledging it, your attack surface is suddenly the web browser and everything (multimedia, documents, Flash, etc.) related to it. During the session Georg Wicherski demonstrated such an attack nicely using a webkit exploit. Thus another good technology turns into a security hazard because of one too many additions. My obvious advice: Disable NFC on your phone until vendors came up with ways to secure it.

Time for Defcon

Now I have another three days of conference to attend: Defcon, which has run for 20 years. (That time is exceeded only by the Chaos Communication Congress, which will take place for the 29th time this year.) Defcon looks massive in the number of its sessions and attendance. (Some major talks, such as ?FX? and Greg?s event on Sunday, for example, were not presented at Black Hat, instead exclusively at Defcon.) We?ll see what is going on there.

PS: Best hack at Black Hat? I met a woman at a vendor?s party who hacked her way into the VIP area. The vendor had given out different ?coins,? one golden, another black, which was the VIP coin. After obtaining the normal gold coin, which wasn?t easy as she had no ticket for Black Hat to begin with, she simply painted the background black with a pen. Worked.

I gave her a new challenge: Gatecrash the VIP area of Defcon?s Freak Show, which McAfee will sponsor this year. Infected Mushroom will play. See you there! :)

Yeast Infection - Symptoms, Treatment | Revista Women's Health

Yes, very common. Yeast infection is a type of fungi found colonizing the skin and mucous membranes of many parts of the body. Colonizing means they are there, in balance with the other flora bacteria, not proliferate too much or cause infection.

The vaginal mucosa is always yeast, part of the flora. When conditions are favorable, yeasts take the opportunity to reproduce uncontrollably and cause infection.

What are the symptoms of a yeast infection?

The symptoms may be any or all of the following:

  • Burning and burning in the area of the entrance to the vagina.
  • Moderate to intense itching in the same area.
  • Heavy vaginal discharge, whitish appearance of ?sour milk?, ie lumpy.

What is the treatment for yeast infection?

The best treatment for this condition are vaginal suppositories containing antifungal agents. In the case of recurrent yeast infection, the treatment may be supplemented with tablets.?Yeast Infection

Some creams can also help, but usually the egg is more effective because it is placed inside the vagina and acts directly on the area.

How can you avoid a yeast infection?

Some measures that can be taken in this regard are as follows:

  • Use cotton underwear instead of synthetic fibers. Cotton and natural fibers that help prevent moisture buildup in the area. The humidity will favor the growth of yeast.
  • Do not use wipes protective underwear.
  • Prefer loose clothing rather than tight pants.
  • Avoid stress, since this lower immunity, favoring the proliferation of yeast.

If in doubt, consult a physician.?Yeast Infection

Four Poles killed in freak lightning strike

WARSAW (Reuters) - Four Poles were killed when they were struck by lightning as they trekked across southern Poland's Pieniny Mountains near the Slovak border, local media reported on Saturday.

The bodies of a man and woman from Warsaw, both 50, were found on Friday along with the corpse of their daughter and that of her fianc?, both 22, near a ravine a mere several hundred yards from their hostel.

"It is extremely rare for a single bolt of lightning to kill four people," said Mariusz Zarod, a mountain rescue official.

Polish and Slovak rescuers had used tracker dogs and helicopters to look for the group after it went missing on Wednesday.

Witnesses said an unusually violent thunderstorm punctuated by multiple lightning strikes had raged in the area where the bodies were found.

Jackson move to Mayo could point to complications

CHICAGO (AP) ? The announcement that Jesse Jackson Jr. had been transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota pinned down his whereabouts for the first time in weeks and gave clear confirmation that the Illinois congressman is suffering from depression.

It also was the first mention that he's now being treated for a "gastrointestinal issue," which some experts said Saturday was a sign his condition is becoming more complicated.

The Chicago Democrat and son of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has been on a secretive leave of absence for nearly seven weeks, during which his office has released only occasional snippets of information, including that he was undergoing treatment for a "mood disorder" at an undisclosed inpatient facility.

A new, three-sentence written statement from the congressman was distributed by the Mayo Clinic late Friday during the national broadcast of the Olympics' opening ceremony, when public attention was more likely fixed half a world away.

As in the past, the statement gave scant detail, an apparent ongoing strategy in the face of pressure from congressional colleagues and constituents clamoring for an in-depth explanation.

It said he had been transferred to the Mayo Clinic for "extensive inpatient evaluation for depression and gastrointestinal issues," but gave no information on the nature of his depression, where Jackson was being treated prior to arriving at the Mayo Clinic or his progress.

The clinic said Saturday it could not release anything further.

Mention of a gastrointestinal problem raised new questions ? whether it's linked to the depression, entirely unrelated or a complication from a 2004 procedure he underwent to help him lose weight.

"Certainly some people do, as part of their depression or anxiety disorder, manifest it with gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea," said Matthew Lilly, a psychiatrist in Rochester, Minn., who did a yearlong fellowship at Mayo in 2010 before going into private practice.

"But for them to even comment on that would, to me, sound as if it's a significant issue and not just a mild symptom associated with his illness," he said.

The Mayo Clinic has a highly rated gastrointestinal department as well as a free-standing inpatient psychiatric unit, said John Anderson of the Associates in Psychiatry and Psychology in southeastern Minnesota.

He said people receiving psychiatric care are often transferred to the clinic when a physical illness develops since both can be treated there.

"Mayo does an excellent job in terms of combining those, so they can treat what's essentially a dual diagnosis," Anderson said.

Phone messages left Saturday for Jackson's spokesman weren't immediately returned.

There was no word Saturday on how long Jackson might remain at the Mayo Clinic.

Typically, Mayo will keep someone as a psychiatric inpatient anywhere from several days to several weeks, Lilly said, though he added the use of the phrase "extensive inpatient evaluation" suggested to him it could be longer for Jackson.

"That would be pretty unusual for someone to stay as an inpatient more than a couple of weeks unless there were some pretty complicated issues going on," Lilly said.

The Mayo Clinic has treated other high-profile figures, including Saudi King Abdullah, and has a reputation for top-level security and strict patient privacy, which is evidently important to the congressman and those around him.

Clinic spokesman Ginger Plumbo said it released the brief statement only because Jackson's staff requested it.

"We would never just release information about any patient without their request or consent," Plumbo said.

The timing of Jackson's medical leave has raised questions, in part because Jackson is facing an ethics investigation in the U.S. House connected to imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The congressman went on leave June 10, but his office didn't disclose it until weeks later. Initially, his office said Jackson was being treated for exhaustion. Since then, the office has said his condition was more serious and required inpatient medical treatment.

Earlier this month, a statement from an unidentified doctor said Jackson was receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for "a mood disorder."

The House Ethics Committee is investigating allegations that Jackson was involved in discussions about raising money for Blagojevich's campaign in exchange for the then-governor appointing him to President Barack Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat.

Jackson was not charged and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

PART FOURTEEN***************(FINAL)**************INTERNET

Overview

Some see mobile advertising as closely related to online or internet advertising, though its reach is far greater ? currently, most mobile advertising is targeted at mobile phones, that came estimably to a global total of 4.6 billion as of 2009. Notably computers, including desktops and laptops, are currently estimated at 1.1 billion globally.

It is probable that advertisers and media industry will increasingly take account of a bigger and fast-growing mobile market, though it remains at around 1% of global advertising spent. Mobile media is evolving rapidly and while mobile phones will continue to be the mainstay, it is not clear whether mobile phones based on cellular backhaul or smartphones based on WiFi hot spot or WiMAX hot zone will also strengthen. However, such is the emergence of this form of advertising, that there is now a dedicated global awards ceremony organised every year by Visiongain.

As mobile phones outnumber TV sets by over 3 to 1,?and PC based internet users by over 4 to 1, and the total laptop and desktop PC population by nearly 5 to 1,[citation needed] advertisers in many markets have recently rushed to this media.?In Spain 75% of mobile phone owners receive ads,[citation needed] in France 62%[citation needed] and in Japan 54%.[citation needed] More remarkably as mobile advertising matures, like in the most advanced markets, the user involvement also matures. In Japan today, already 44% of mobile phone owners click on ads they receive on their phones. Mobile advertising was worth 900 million dollars in Japan alone.?According to the research firm Berg Insight the global mobile advertising market that was estimated to ? 1 billion in 2008.Furthermore, Berg Insight forecasts the global mobile advertising market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 43 percent to ? 8.7 billion in 2014[1].

Types of mobile ads

In some markets, this type of advertising is most commonly seen as a Mobile Web Banner (top of page) or Mobile Web Poster (bottom of page banner), while in others, it is dominated by SMS advertising (which has been estimated at over 90% of mobile marketing revenue worldwide). Other forms include MMS advertising, advertising within mobile games and mobile videos, during mobile TV receipt, full-screen interstitials, which appear while a requested item of mobile content or mobile web page is loading up, and audio advertisements that can take the form of a jingle before a voicemail recording, or an audio recording played while interacting with a telephone-based service such as movie ticketing or directory assistance.

The Mobile Marketing Association and the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) has published mobile advertising guidelines,[2][3] but it is difficult to keep such guidelines current in such a fast-developing area.

The effectiveness of a mobile media ad campaign can be measured in a variety of ways. The main measurements are impressions (views) and click-through rates. They are also sold to advertisers by views (Cost Per Impression) or by click-through (Cost Per Click). Additional measurements include conversion rates, such as click-to-call rates and other degrees of interactive measurement.

Mobile media can run on a mobile web page or within a mobile application, often referred to as in-App.[4].

Mobile Rich Media

In addition to standard mobile display banners, a growing trend is to include rich media execution within the banner ads. This includes banners that would expand to a larger size, offering advertisers a larger display to communicate their message. Games within the banner to make the experience more interactive or a video within the banner space.

There are limitations rich media on mobile because all of the coding must be done in HTML5, since the iOS does not support flash.

Handsets display and corresponding ad images

There are hundreds of handsets in the market and they differ by screen size and supported technologies (e.g. MMS, WAP 2.0). For color images, formats such as PNG, JPEG, GIF and BMP are typically supported, along with the monochrome WBMP format. The following gives an overview of various handset screen sizes and a recommended image size for each type.[5]

History

Martin Cooper invented a portable handset in 1973, when he was a project manager at Motorola. It was almost three decades after the idea of cellular communications was introduced by Bell Laboratories. Two decades later, cellular phones made a commercial debut in the mass market in the early 1990s. In the early days of cellular handsets, phone functionality was limited to dialing, and voice input/output.

When the second generation of mobile telecoms (so-called 2G) was introduced in Finland by Radiolinja (now Elisa) on the GSM standard (now the world?s most common mobile technology with over 2 billion users) in 1991, the digital technology introduced data services. SMS text messaging was the first such service. The first person-to-person SMS text message was sent in Finland in December 1994. SMS (Short Message Service) gradually began to grow, becoming the largest data service by number of users in the world, currently with 74% of all mobile subscribers or 2.4 billion people active users of SMS in 2007.

One advantage of SMS is that while even in conference, users are able to send and receive brief messages unobtrusively, while enjoying privacy. Even in such environments as in a restaurant, caf?, bank, travel agency office, and so on, the users can enjoy some privacy by sending/receiving brief text messages in an unobtrusive way.

It would take six years from the launch of SMS until the first case of advertising would appear on this new data media channel, when a Finnish news provider offered free news headlines via SMS, sponsored by advertising. This led to rapid experimentation in mobile advertising and mobile marketing, and the world?s first conference to discuss mobile advertising was held in London in 2000, sponsored by the Wireless Marketing Association (which later merged into the Mobile Marketing Association). The first books to discuss mobile advertising were Ahonen?s M-Profits and Haig?s Mobile Marketing in 2002. Several major mobile operators around the world launched their own mobile advertising arms, like Aircross in South Korea, owned by the parents of SK Telecoms the biggest mobile operator, or like D2 Communications in Japan, the joint venture of Japan?s largest mobile operator NTT DoCoMo and Dentsu, Japan?s largest ad agency.

Mobile as media

This unobtrusive two-way communications caught the attention of media industry and advertisers as well as cellphone makers and telecom operators. Eventually, SMS became a new media ? called the ?seventh mass media channel? by several media and mobile experts ? and even more, it is a two-way mobile media, as opposed to one-way immobile media like radios, newspapers and TV. Besides, the immediacy of responsiveness in this two-way media is a new territory found for media industry and advertisers, who are eager to measure up market response immediately. Additionally, the possibility of fast delivery of the messages and the ubiquity of the technology (it does not require any additional functionality from the mobile phone, all devices available today are capable of receiving SMS), make it ideal for time- and location-sensitive advertising, such as customer loyalty offers (ex. shopping centres, large brand stores), SMS promotions of events, etc. To leverage this strength of SMS advertising, timely and reliable delivery of messages is paramount, which is guaranteed by some SMS gateway providers.

Mobile media has begun to draw more significant attention from media giants and advertising industry since the mid-2000s, based on a view that mobile media was to change the way advertisements were made, and that mobile devices can form a new media sector. Despite this, revenues are still a small fraction of the advertising industry as a whole but are most certainly on the rise. Informa reported that mobile advertising in 2007 was worth $2.2 billion. This is less than 0.5% of the approximately $450 billion global advertising industry.

Types of mobile advertising are expected to change rapidly. In other words, mobile technology will come up with a strong push for identifying newer and unheard-of mobile multimedia, with the result that subsequent media migration will greatly stimulate a consumer behavioral shift and establish a paradigm shift in mobile advertising. A major media migration is on, as desktop Internet evolves into mobile Internet. One typical case in point is Nielsen?s recent buyout of Telephia.

However it should be kept in mind that the rapid change in the technology used by mobile advertisers can also have adverse effect to the number of consumers being reached by the mobile advertisements, due to technical limitations of their mobile devices. Because of that, campaigns that aim to achieve wide response or are targeting lower income groups might be better off relying on older, more widespread mobile advertising technologies, such as SMS.

Viral marketing

As mobile is an interactive mass media similar to the internet, advertisers are eager to utilize and make use of viral marketing methods, by which one recipient of an advertisement on mobile, will forward that to a friend. This allows users to become part of the advertising experience. At the bare minimum mobile ads with viral abilities can become powerful interactive campaigns. At the extreme, they can become engagement marketing experiences. A key element of mobile marketing campaigns is the most influential member of any target audience or community, which is called the alpha user

Privacy concern

Advocates have raised the issue of privacy. Targeted mobile marketing requires customization of ad content to reach interested and relevant customers. To customize such behavioral personal data, user profiling, data mining and other behavior watch tools are employed, and privacy advocates warn that this may cause privacy infringement.[7]

Some mobile carriers offer freebie or cheaper rate plans in exchange for SMS or other mobile ads. However, mobile TV and mobile search may override this privacy concern, as soon as they are implemented on a full-blown basis. In a naive way to override privacy concern, however, User?s prior consent needs to be obtained through membership to join or User account to set up. Both mobile TV and mobile search may supersede the way of getting Users? prior consent through membership or User account because users are free to choose mobile TV channels or mobile search services on a voluntary basis.

Interactivity

Mobile devices aim to outgrow the domain of voice-intensive cellphones and to enter a new world of multimedia mobile devices, like laptops, PDA phones and smartphones. Unlike the conventional one-way media like TV, radio and newspaper, web media has enabled two-way traffic, thereby introducing a new phase of interactive advertising, regardless of whether static or mobile. This user-centric approach was noted at the 96th annual conference of Association of National Advertisers in 2006, which described ?a need to replace decades worth of top-down marketing tactics with bottom-up, grass-roots approaches?. Many use 2d bar codes to make offline print material more interactive with their mobile device. This has been proven to be successful in Japan, UK, Philippines and has been catching on in Northern America.

Mobile device issues

Coincidentally, however, mobile devices are encountering technological bottlenecks in terms of battery life, formats, and safety issue

In a broad sense, mobile devices are categorically broken down into portable and stationary equipment. Technically, mobile devices are categorized as below:

  • Handheld [portable]
  • Laptop, including ultraportable [portable]
  • Dashtop, including GPS navigation, satellite radio, and WiMAX-enabled dashtop mobile payment platforms[fixed on dashboards]

The battery life and safety issues will perhaps combine to eventually push mobile equipment?s inroads into vehicle dashtops. However, satellite-based GPS navigation and satellite radio may already hit a snag because of their part-time usage and technological hierarchy. Put differently, people want more functions than GPS navigation and satellite radios. The trend indicates an ongoing convergence into all-in-one dashtop mobile devices incorporating GPS navigators, satellite radios, MP3 players, mobile TV, mobile Internet, MVDER (vehicle black box), driving safety monitors, smartphones and even video games.

Toenail fungus products and treatment. - Alternative-medicine Articles

Toenail Fungus Begone! This phrase cant carry out a miracle by itself, but you will see the effect if you combine this words with the proper treatment and toenail fungus products which will cure your disease. Toenail fungus infections most often affect the feet of those people who lead a healthy way of life as these people regularly attend a gym, swimming pool, sauna, etc. Nail Fungus is a very tenacious infection, and at last affects all parts of the nail, destroying it, and moves to the other nails and areas of the epidermis. Toenail fungus causes fungal infections that can be easily transmitted from person to person so toenail fungus is a contagious disease. Nail Fungus is the cause of contamination of other parts of the body. Even when you cure all the focuses of fungus on the epidermis of the feet, after some time the surviving focuses of infection in the nails can cause the reinfection.

Frequently the toenail fungus infection may arise in the household foe example via the common shoes, but sometimes by other stuff for the house. With equal frequency the toenail fungus infection arises in public areas: in public baths, showers, exercise and sports gyms and swimming pools.

?

The external manifestations of nail fungus are the changing of the nails color, their thickening and after all crumbling and breaking. The toenail fungus makes the nails white, gray or sometimes yellow and brown. Nail plate becomes opaque because between it and the base of the nail live fungus themselves. Untreated toenail fungus leads eventually to the introduction of the fungus in the entire nail plate and its subsequent exfoliation. Toenail fungus treatment products can be bought in the pharmacies or ordered in the internet.?

?

?

You should remember that the toenail fungus is a ailment that will not pass away with the lapse of time. On the contrary in length of time it gets even worse: the infected nails change color, become thickened and are often destroyed as time passes. The disease should be treated in the optimal way and controlled thoroughly for not appearing again. So if you had noticed some the signs of this disease you would better immediately proceed to the treating of toenail fungal disease. Nowadays some severe cases of this infectionis treatable surgically, but it is not the most beneficial and unmistakable way to cure the toenail fungus. So you should consult the physician to get to know all the information regarding remedy for this complaint.

Building A Home Internet Business To Make An Income Online ...

Most folk who turn to the internet to better their financial status are unaware of what it takes to make an income online, so this article covers the steps to actually building a home internet business to the point of generating internet income. The internet offers anybody with a computer and internet connection the opportunity to start a home internet business with a click of the mouse, but building a home internet business is where the challenge, work and excitement begin.

Too many people get totally disillusioned when they have not made an income online after a few days or weeks of starting their home internet business, but that is purely because they do not appreciate the fact that it takes time and effort to build a business online. The building process of a home internet business never stops and if you can appreciate that you will need to be continually building, extending, maintaining or making alterations then you will be well on your way to making an income online. Building A Home Internet Business Your need to get your website in front of as many people as possible who are looking for what your business has to offer, so the whole building process is geared to attracting vast numbers of targeted visitors to your home internet business. This involves making the presence of your business felt on the internet and this is the process of building that we are going to discuss here. It is important that you have a means of building your list. Offering an email newsletter is a good example and with an auto-responder set up your visitors will be able to subscribe to your newsletter and so you start the list building process. This will enable you to also send your list members broadcast messages from time to time. Ensuring that your website is search engine friendly is another important factor to ensure that you achieve good rankings in the search results and you can optimize your website for your chosen keywords yourself. There are many ways to start making the presence of your business felt and it is advisable to use a variety of methods. Building back-links to your website is what is needed to give you better rankings in the search engines and a very effective method is writing and submitting articles to the article directories on a regular consistent basis, using the author resource box to anchor your keyword phrase to your website. Exchange links with other websites to build your link popularity and add your link to web directories. Constructively post in forums with a link to your website in your signature. These methods can be totally free if you have the time to write and submit. If you are short of time you can always hire a ghostwriter to write your articles and invest in an article submitter for submitting your articles. Pay per click advertising is another way to get almost instant targeted traffic to your website. You can also place adverts on the respected classifieds sites. Social bookmarking and blogging are also quick ways to spread the word. Extending A Home Internet Business As far as your actual website or blog is concerned it is important to continually add new content, not only to please the search engines but to add interest to your site as well. You can continually expand your website by adding new pages which target different keywords, thus attracting different visitors. Monitor your rankings in the search engines for your chosen keywords and keep an eye on your competition and make adjustments to your site where necessary. As the presence of your home internet business starts to be felt on the internet the volume of traffic to your website will steadily increase and if this is not happening you know that you need to do more of the above disciplines. Maintaining Your Website Be sure to regularly maintain your website by way of checking that all your links are working. Check your download time. Remove unnecessary links. Add more up-to-date features. Keep your website current. Making Alterations To Your Website There may come a time that you are receiving a lot of traffic to your website but you are still not making an income online. What now? This is when you need to take a serious look at your website. Are you offering what you promised in your adverts? Can your visitors easily find what they are looking for? Is your website easy to navigate? Is your website displaying offers or adverts from other websites that are distracting your customers? Do you have irritating flashing banners on your site? Are you asking your visitors to fill out too many forms or lengthy surveys? Do you have a call to action section? Are you giving your visitors too many options? Are you offering too much information or non-relevant content? Many forums have a section where you can submit your website for a review. A good idea would be to go back to the forums where you have been posting and submit your site for a review, explain the problems you are experiencing and request honest feedback to help you solve the problem. You could join an SEO forum as well and submit your site for a review from a more specialized point of view. Making An Income Online As you can see from the above, there are many factors involved in building a successful home internet business, but once you have reached the stage that your website is being viewed by a large number of people on a daily basis who are in the market for what your home internet business has to offer and your website is clear in its offerings, that is when you will start making an income online. Protest over Anaheim police shootings turns violent

By NBC Los Angeles and NBC News wire reports

ANAHEIM, California -- Protesters broke the windows of least a half-dozen storefronts in Anaheim on Tuesday and five people were arrested in the second major clash between police and demonstrators since an officer shot dead an apparently unarmed man.

Mayor Tom Tait had called on Monday for a state and federal review of the shooting of the man, a suspected gang member.?

More than 600 demonstrators gathered at City Hall on Tuesday, where officials were holding a regular meeting, police said.?

NBCLosAngeles.com reported that crowds converged on the building at around 4 p.m. (7 p.m. ET) to urge council-members to investigate a series of recent?officer-involved shootings?and reform the city's police force, which?residents have accused of racial profiling.

Officials say there have been eight officer-involved shootings in the city this year.

The council chamber reached capacity and police in riot gear blocked access to the meeting, according to NBCLosAngeles.com.

Protesters clash with police during a demonstration at Anaheim City Hall on Tuesday.

Some protesters threw patio chairs through the windows of a Starbucks, a witness told Reuters. No one in the coffee shop was injured, said Anaheim police spokesman Sergeant Bob Dunn.?

In the same block-long strip mall, at least five other businesses also had windows smashed, a witness said.

Afterward, officers toting shotguns stood guard in front of the storefronts.?

Five people were arrested in the protest and ensuing melee, Dunn said.

Dozens of officers wielding night sticks faced off against the demonstrators, who at one point threw water bottles and rocks toward the line.?

At least one person was transported to the hospital after being shot in the head with a pepperball, Dunn told NBCLosAngeles.com. No officers were injured.

Aerial footage showed several fires near the scene of the protest -- one in a trash bin, another near a bus bench.

The tensions flared after police shot and killed a man on Saturday afternoon.?

A protester is arrested during a demonstration in Anaheim, Calif., on Tuesday.

Two officers had tried to approach three men in an alley who fled, Dunn said earlier this week. The officers followed on foot and one caught up to one suspect, police said.?

The officer shot the man, who police said they later identified as Manuel Diaz, a known gang member. Diaz was not found to have been carrying a gun, police said.?

'Transparency is essential'
Police fired pepper pellets at angry residents near the scene of the shooting on Saturday.?

Late on Sunday Anaheim officers tried to stop a car and killed a man who police said fled and opened fire on them during a foot chase.?

He was the fifth person to die in an officer-involved shooting in Anaheim this year.

Tait?called for a state and federal probe?of the fatal shootings during a news conference Sunday, during which some 70 protesters stormed the lobby.

"Transparency is essential," Tait said Sunday. "The investigation will seek the truth. And whatever the truth is, we will own it."

At least four agencies are involved in?or are expected to join the investigation, including the U.S. Attorney's office, the State Attorney General, the Anaheim Police Department's Officer of Internal Affairs and -- as is usual for officer-involved shootings -- the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Anaheim was among six California cities with a population over 100,000 that saw the biggest spikes in violent crime in 2011, according to an analysis of FBI crime data released last month.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Setting Up An Online Business | Business and Travel | Business and ...

When you stop to think about all the different things that need to be done when you own a business, it can get quite overwhelming. That is why many people have turned to outsourcing a number of different items within their business, particularly those that are mundane or do not tend to increase their success. What are some of the things that you can do with your business which will help to increase the amount of time that you actually get to work on your business instead of working in your business?

One of the things that you may want to consider is outsourcing your customer support. I?m not necessarily talking about outsourcing for problem customers more serious issues but typically, you can hire somebody that will be able to take care of your email, social media and other regular tasks. It is also possible that you can outsource something even more important, such as the shipping of your items to your customers. If you use a wholesaler, it is likely that they offer a dropshipping service which will free up your time from this daily task. If you do not yet have a wholesaler that offers that service, you can look at a dropshipping directory to find one that is going to work well for you. There may be other things that can be outsourced within your company. You will need to take a good look at all of the projects that you do on a daily basis and see which ones are better left to others and which ones should be handled directly by you. I HATE when people / OHs family - BabyandBump

I know, people do that Everyone has different associations and experiences and beliefs about different names, and no one name will ever be agreed on by everybody. I just think you totally ignore them and pick a name you and your OH love and think fits your little one Even if they hate the name initially, once they get to know your little baby those ideas go out the window, and then your family couldn't imagine him/her with a different name
Personally, I dislike everyone asking us about names right now. My DH has made it very clear he doesn't want to talk about names until the baby is here, which to me is stressful! We've been arguing about it (finally both did some compromising), so I hate feeling that pressure from people asking what we're going to name him! It's an emotional topic for me right now, haha, so I feel like I have to hold back when people ask! lol

Turkish truck drivers accuse rebel fighters of looting

Dozens of Turkish truck drivers have accused Free Syrian Army rebels of having burned and looted their lorries as they captured a border post in Syria from government troops.

A group of truck owners, traders and transporters who have braved Syria's highways despite the bloody conflict have been waiting since Friday at Turkey's Cilvegozu border crossing, opposite Syria's Bab al-Hawa post.

Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebel fighters captured the border post in their battle against President Bashar al-Assad's loyalist troops.

"We barely escaped when the rebel fighters took full control of the Bab al-Hawa border post in Syria," said Hasan Abbasoglu, who retrieved his vehicle from Syria after the looting.

While the truck was not damaged, its cargo had been ransacked. And he had to pay $700 (575 euros) in bribes to get his truck back, he said.

"I've been exporting carpets via the Syrian border crossing for seven years," he told AFP. "But this time, we narrowly escaped with our lives."

Members of the Free Syrian Army had done nothing to stop the looting, he complained.

Later Saturday, after a meeting of local officials, the governor of Hatay province in southern Turkey blamed "independent groups" for the looting, without providing further specifics.

Nineteen out of 30 trucks had been returned to their owners. Another nine or so were burned out, and the rest were still being held inside Syria, Celalettin Lekesiz told reporters.

Rebel fighters were seen handing out the contents of the lorries to local people Friday at the Bab al-Hawa border post on the Syrian side.

By Saturday evening, a group of some 150 foreign fighters describing themselves as Islamists had taken control of the post.

These fighters were not at the site on Friday, when rebel fighters captured the post.

Some of the fighters said they belonged to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), while others claimed allegiance to the Shura Taliban.

They were armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles, rocket launchers and improvised mines.

The fighters identified themselves as coming from a number of countries: Algeria, France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates -- and the Russian republic of Chechnya, itself prey to two brutal conflicts in the 1990s as Moscow clamped down on separatist militants.

The FSA is made up of mainly army defectors fighting against the Damascus regime and some of its leaders are based in Turkish camps along the border.

Speaking to reporters after visiting refugee camps in Turkey's Hatay province near the Syrian border, Abdel Basset Sayda, leader of the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC), said the looting of lorries at Bab al-Hawa was "unacceptable" and blamed the looting on pro-government gangs.

Thursday's fighting saw Syrian rebels seize the border crossing with Turkey, prompting an all-out assault by the regime in Damascus to regain the lost border posts, also including one on the Iraq border.

At Bab al-Hawa, just four kilometres (2.5 miles) from Cilvegozu, Syrian rebels ransacked customs buildings and pulled cargo from the back of stranded trucks.

Few traders were as lucky as Abbasoglu, instead losing their vehicles or merchandise.

"All of our trucks were burned," said trader Ali Cengiz, who exports goods to Saudi Arabia via Syria. "The rebel fighters destroyed our trucks during the clashes."

Ali Celik, who runs a road haulage company, looked over the border into Syria, but he did not hold out much hope for his merchandise. His trucks were stranded at Bab al-Hawa.

"We sent tow trucks to retrieve our vehicles but we have received no information so far," he said, adding that his trading partner was "very disappointed."

Turkey was a major economic partner of Syria before Assad clamped down on the uprising that erupted in March last year, badly straining ties between the two countries.

Ankara has denounced the bloody crackdown, which has sent more than 40,000 Syrians across the border into its territory alone.

The Turkish foreign ministry has repeatedly warned its citizens not to travel to Syria because of security concerns.

Traders, however, argued that as long as the border crossing at Cilvegozu remained open, they have to keep trading via Syria in order to stay in business.

"How will we earn our living then?" asked Cengiz. "We have debts, will the government make up for our loss?"
